The design of the systems provides hot swapable modules which plug in to a simple unit. The unit is a standard 19" rack mountable chassie which provides a distributed DC power supply and communication between four pairs of adjacent slots for SATA communication.
Each module consists of an identical container with interchangable front panels to accomodate different motherboards or plain for hard disk drive moduiles. Inside the module the motherboard is mounted and a secondry pcb interfaces through tthe back of the module with the units backpane providing power and access to the adjacent module for SATA communication.
Te design allows the modules to boot diskless, but for setups requiring high speed disk access adjacent HDD modules can be used. This maximises the density for purely processing applications and minimises power requirements.
By using a distributed power supply we move the heat from the transformer to the top of the cabinet and away from the CPU allowing a higher density of CPU's.
